We have made a smaller update to the VIKING movie and added a short background text and a reference to FP7. This means that a new link to youtube must be used n the future.
The new link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2NtIpqoczA
We are proud that over 400 visitors have watched our movie in the first weeks. |

On January 24 the VIKING project had its last Project Review in Brussels for the Project Officer and the external reviewers. Although the project was preliminary approved on the review meeting and formally has been finished we intend to keep the WEB page open, at least during 2012, and publish news around the project and on dissemination activities that are already committed.
One of the last deliverables for VIKING was the Final Project Report. This report gives a good summary of the findings and results we have produced in the project. You will find a somewhat shortened version of the final report attached to this News article. In the report you will find references to the most important VIKING deliverables. If you are interested in a deeper description of a particular part of VIKING, please, contact us and we will send you the requested deliverable. Please, also include a short background for your interest since some of the material we have produced could be sensitive. You will find contact information in the report. |

The VIKING project has produced a movie of one of the VIKING Story Boards. The movie shows a cyber attack directed to the HMI workstations in a control room. The attacker manages to take control over the workstation and issues commands to open high voltage breakers. This leads to a national blackout.

The VIKING project is now close to be finished and we can report on our research work. Attached to this News you will find summary reports from three of our main research areas:
- The Cyber Security Modeling Language (CySeMoL). Using a Meta language and models of control system architectures we can estimate the probability that a cyber attack would compromise a specific control system.
- The VIKING Cities Simulator (ViCiSi) is a virtual society model. Using models of a virtual society we can calculate the economical cost for society, as lost GDP, from a blackout. We also give a measurement of “soft factors” caused by a blackout in the form of an Impact Magnitude scale.
- The VIKING Testbed. We have developed a Testbed with a real SCADA system and models of a high voltage grid, substations including a distribution grid and of a virtual society. The Test bed can be used to demonstrate cyber attacks on a SCADA system and the corresponding consequences in the grid and on the society.
In the attachments you will find overview descriptions from these three areas. More detailed descriptions for each area are part of our official deliverables. If you want to learn more about our research, please use the Contact Us feature on this WEB page. |
